This information is already more mainstream but still something I think alot of people need to wake up to.

The above links give a further explanation of why the widely used sweetener 'Aspartame' should never have been approved way back in 1981. Corruption was rife in the testing and approval process, obviously due to the fact that the test results showed a definite trend towards causing cancer (specifically brain tumours) and all sorts of negative, unhealthy side effects... much worse than saving a few calories from entering your body... and people all around the world, including myself, have been guzzling diet drinks for over 30 years with the ironic misconception that they are protecting their health.

The chemistry is not too difficult to get your head around. Basically, toxins are released into your body, crossing the blood-brain boundary and these toxins cannot be metabolised; Your body can never get rid of them. Other artificial sweeteners, e.g. Sucralose, have their own adverse effects, but it seems Aspartame is the main offender due to the dangers of doing damage to the brain.

For myself, I don't know why I waited so long to get properly informed, but now that I have, I won't ever be touching Aspartame products again and I will be the annoying one in the restaurant warning friends every time they order a diet coke.

Once again, the evil and greed of corporations is the root of the problem. When a product becomes a significant player within the global economy, however harmful the product may be to the people who consume it, the corporation would move the earth to prevent these health risks being exposed to an extent where production is stopped. It's a good thing for them that the majority of consumers remain blissfully ignorant.
